About a month ago I announced in here I built RPMs for RH7.3. You can use them if you want.

I built RPMS that will install in a RedHat 7.3 system with xforms-0.88 here

http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/software/lyx-1.2.1-1rh73-xforms088.i386.rpm

The install may say you lack a libstdc++ or such, and if it says that, you need to get out your redhat cd and install this:

compat-libstdc++-6.2-2.9.0.16

Please beware that gcc-3.X will not build lyx from source and the advice you get to rebuild the srpm is not good advice, unless you make sure your c++ compiler is of the right sort.

One person in here posted a patch which fixes lyx so it will compile with the newer c++, but I don't have a copy right now.

Seeing how so many people are angry trying to install Kayvan's
rpms, I think we really need to provide something compiled with gcc
2.96.

If anybody can provide these rpms to me (built from the .src.rpm of
the site), please send them to me. Ask Kayvan for details if you
want to know how to make them.

What would be nice is to have an rpm for some kind of vanilla rh 7.x.
I fear that rh6.2+gcc2.96 is asking for trouble. If we assume that
people can just rebuild their rpm (which is not so easy since they
need to have all the -devel packages installed), I think we should
just decide so and get rid of the rh62 rpms we have currently. They
are probably too confusing for people.
