Thanks, I did.

The first suggestion:

Put

p+ psfonts.cmz
p+ psfonts.amz

in ~/.dvipsrc

makes no diff.

The second suggestion: putting 
\usepackage{ae,aecompl}
did work! PDF looks good!

The third suggestion, which I mentioned in my previous msg., i.e., use 
pslatex fonts inst. of default, works OK but the fonts are not as nice as 
latex fonts.

So:
----------------------------
PUT
\usepackage{ae,aecompl}
IN THE PREAMBLE!

This is very valuable info for all latex users and probably should be 
advertised. I looked for pdf font fixes for latex with google and only 
found lengthy explanations of how complicated the whole font issue is...


Maybe LyX should put \usepackage{ae,aecompl} in the preamble by default 
(at least when exporting to pdf).
