Open the Math panel (depending on the Lyx version, you can do this by 
right-clicking on a math expression). Then click on the third icon in 
the top row, that'll open a dialog called "Maths Delimiters"

I don't think it should be reported as a lyx bug, since it's a latex 
problem and not a Lyx problem... 

I'm no latex expert so I don't know what workarounds there are for this... 
if you mean that you'd like a warning, they are output to the LaTeX Log 
(View->LaTeX Logfile):

        Overfull \hbox ....

Tip: Go do Layout->Documents   and then type

        draft

in the place where you enter: "Extra Options". That'll put a black box for 
the overfull stuff in your output.
