If you will indulge me for a moment, I would like to say a big thanks to all those who created and all those who maintain LyX. For the past 3 years I have been using LyX while doing a PhD in computer science. I have just passed my viva and thankfully the thesis is now finished.
Without the convenience of a WYSIWY* tool like LyX, writing half a dozen academic papers and completing my thesis would have been a harder job. Although my thesis is thin by some standards (210 pages) I don't believe that M$word would have coped at all well. For an opensource project, LyX remains an extremly robust and reliable tool, even changing versions several times throughout the work didn't hold too many heart stopping surprises. I cannot of course name everybody who helped me (and others of course) to use LyX, but I think Herbert deserves a special note of thanks for his tireless work in responding to queries and for creating that most useful resource - the LyX tips pages. To all the other folk - again thanks for your help. I have started to use LyX for writing documents for use in my own business now, so I shall continue to lurk in this group. Cheers Pete
