Which version and which frontend? I am running LyX 1.3.2 with xforms frontend
on my old P100 notebook. It needs some starting time, but then it is o.k. I
can imagine that the qt version needs some more memory.

There are some rtf2latex and word2latex converters, but I don't think this is
a good idea. If you can't use LyX, use an editor an write LaTeX. That can be
imported without greater hassles into LyX.
