The Start-Lyx error was a space farther up the chain.

Is that also causing LyX to export damaged LaTeX files. I can't get Excalibur to open an exported file. There's nothing obviously (to my eyes) wrong with the file. Even cutting and pasting all the text into a new document won't create a document Excalibur can open. Not only is it inconvenient, I'm wondering what this says about the validity of exported files in general.
Or maybe there's something really screwed up about that folder b/c if I double-click on the LyX version of the file, it attempts to open it, but then says it can't (Start-LyX starts).
