Why not to use two keymaps (Spanish and English) and switch between
them. The easiest way to do it is to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (or
/etc/X11/XF86Config, if you don't have that) so that section for
keyboard (search for Driver "keyboard" to find the proper section) has
in Option "XkbLayout" Spanish keyboard (which is "es", if I am not
mistaken).
So for example this section for me looks like this:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "keyboard"
Option "CoreKeyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
Option "XkbLayout" "czsk"
EndSection
(do not change XkbModel, that should be OK).
You switch between Spanish and English keymap with pressing both Shifts.
