Lyx-spanish and the accented vowels dilema.

Hi:

  Does anybody use L�X in spanish?  My lyx won't accept accented 
vowels, it will display them as � (capital A with a tilde on top).  I 
know I've set up Xkeyboard correctly, because lyx will actually accept 
the spanish "�", and all the other programs (including xedit) accept all 
the vowels.  but not LYX.  I've tried to manipulate the encodings, the 
fonts, the input-output codes...everything.  Used the xmodmap commands, 
etc.  If anybody knows how to get LYX to display the accented vowels, 
please le tme know.  thanks
