You can test quickly this command from a shell:

env [EMAIL PROTECTED] lyx

in bash you can do this two steps:

export [EMAIL PROTECTED]
lyx &

in tcsh :
setenv LANG [EMAIL PROTECTED]
lyx &

For a permanent setup RedHat (wich is my distribution) has the file /etc/sysconfic/i18n, but I don't know your distro ...

Excelente!!!

I tried 'env [EMAIL PROTECTED] lyx' and all worked perfectly well, the accented vowels are there...the eñe was there...excelent. And I can create a Lyx boton for spanish with that command and another for english. excelent.

for the other instructions, I'm not sure what you mean, but...my distro is RedHat 8.0, with the Gnome 2 environment. I looked at the /etc/sysconfig/i18n file, but I don't know if adding the commands you sent to that file will transport Lyx to spanish completely. What I need is to switch back and forth between spanish and english...but, because I'm a big newbie...I really dont know what that does. Anyway...i have a newbie way of getting LYX to work in Spanish and that makes me very happy.

Thanks...Gracias
