Thanks for all your replies and comments.
I started writing my thesis with LyX, and I'm getting addicted :) so far so
good! As someone stated it's much easier (at least for me) to concentrate on
the contents with LyX, and I can do everything I used to do with my text
editor. Another big advantage is the immediate visual feedback when writing
in math - mode; it's very helpful with long and cluttered equations. I like
very much the table editor too, and the ability to roll up footnotes and
floating objects.
I noticed some minor glitches, though:
1) separators in math mode do not work very well when inserted manually (i.e.
\left( and the like): they don't scale to proper size in LyX view and when I
delete them it seems like sometimes some garbage is left behind (some
backslashes?), causing errors when viewing the DVI.
2) how can I split long equations into some lines? I know about AMS multiline
and eqnarray, my problem is that I can't split in two parts an expression
between two separators.
Oh, on a side note, is there a way to have some localization on AMS stuff?
When using the "theorem" environment I get the label "Theorem" in the DVI,
instead of the italian "Teorema". Any hint on this would be appreciated.
Thanks for this software, it's really awesome :)
