Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I'm already using a modified mwbk class and I'm a bit reluctant to change to another float system at this stage. I've managed to manually adjust caption width using the ccaption package though. What I would like to know is if there is a function that returns table/figure widths like \linewidth does for lines?
