This might be a misunderstanding...  One way to do it is to write

  '\usepackage{textcomp}'

in the document preamble (Layout->Preamble) and use \textregistered in
'evil red text' in the main text (i.e. type

  '<C-l>textregistered<space><C-i>'

This won't display 'properly' within LyX but gives correct result in the
printout (or .ps/.pdf)

I am not sure there's a simpler method.
