Well, I use \quad and the LyX code layout. This produces real ugly LaTeX
but "works".
Of course, proper support for algorithm.sty would be nice (and should
not be too hard to do...)

Does this mean that 
http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/algorithm/algo-0.3.tar.gz has 
completely dissapeared? According to the mail list archives it even 
contained a sample lyx file in it.  That was as of December 2003.
