Jan, I'm not sure that I understand your problem. If you are seeing a character different from what you expect to see then the problem is one of the font encoding. Your document might specify that all fonts are encoded OT1 when they're actually T1. That will put different glyphs at certain positions in the font glyph table and result in what I think you write that you see. HTH, Rich -- Dr. Richard B.
