LyX-1.3.5 on linux. On the recommendation of Jean-Pierre I upgraded ghostscript from 7.07 to 8.14 in an attempt to fix the epstopdf problem. After building and installing I tried to compile my book using pdflatex. Doesn't work. The error message is an inability to run epstopdf on each of the figures.
More information that I hope helps someone to recognize the solution.
When I upgraded gs last evening I also installed ghostscript-fonts-std-8.11.tar.gz. These turn out to belong in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW. So I moved them there and ran mkfontdir. Thought I was good to go.
This morning I tried to manually convert a file from eps to pdf using Jean-Pierre's epstopdf. This is the result:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~/data/book/figures]$ epstopdf --outfile=test.pdf fig-voting.epsError: /invalidfont in findfont Operand stack: Times-Roman Font Times-Roman 344229 Times-Roman --nostringval-- Times-Roman NimbusRomNo9L-Regu Courier NimbusMonL-Regu Execution stack: %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push 1 3 %oparray_pop 1 3 %oparray_pop --nostringval-- 1 3 %oparray_pop 1 3 %oparray_pop .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- 1 4 %oparray_pop 2 4 %oparray_pop --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push 5 5 %oparray_pop --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 1 -1 1 --nostringval-- %for_neg_int_continue Dictionary stack: --dict:1120/1686(ro)(G)-- --dict:0/20(G)-- --dict:75/200(L)-- --dict:51/51(L)-- --dict:17/17(ro)(G)-- --dict:1120/1686(ro)(G)-- Current allocation mode is local Last OS error: 2 AFPL Ghostscript 8.14: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1 Broken pipe
When I queried the URW/font.dir for Times-Roman I find:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW]# less fonts.dir 391 <snip a bunch of lines> n021004l.pfb -urw-nimbus roman no9 l-bold-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
Also, using the fonts.dir_fndry_is_urw list I also find:
n021003l.pfb -urw-Times-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
Sure enough, the whole family of n021003l.* is present with create dates of yesterday evening.
So, since the font seems to be in the directory I have no idea why epstopdf cannot find it. I'm stuck in a loop here and need help to break out of it.
Thanks,
Rich
