  I don't expect lyx to depend solely on KDE, but if it could take advantage 
of its features it would be interesting.

  Our experiences with KDE have been clearly different I don't have those 
problems you mention. I have also noticed a trend in kde to be faster and 
stable, not otherwise.

  Again DCOP is a good thing for what it was designed and is being the base 
for further work under the freedesktop.org umbrella. Again if lyx could 
take advantage of this (optionally) this could only be a good thing.

  Notice that I am not saying that KDE is perfect (far from it) but it is a 
good technology and if lyx would benefit from being able to be more 
integrated with it. As noted everywhere in this thread this shouldn't be an 
exclusive feature but an add-on.
