I seem to be replying to my own requests for help, not with help or a solution, unfortunately, but with new information about the problem. My apologies for not investigating for a longer time before I queried the list, but I'm hyperventilating at the thought of having to recreate all these drawings.

Here's the problem, as I understand it at the moment: A manuscript (with many figures) created in LyX/Mac 1.3.4 used to launch perfectly in 1.3.4 with all the figures loading nicely. When I tried today to open that manuscript in LyX/Mac 1.4.1, none of the figures loaded: the graphics boxes either said "Error in converting to loadable format" or something like "Not found."

More detail: In a folder called Research, I have a folder called Prop6 and other folders. The Prop6 folder contains original figures (in cvs format, created using Canvas) and also figures in eps format (without preview) made from these original Canvas figures. The eps figures used to load just fine in LyX/Mac 1.3.4. Now in LyX/mac 1.4.1 these same eps figures give the message "Error in converting to loadable format." Even if I take one of the original cvs figures (which are in a subfolder of the Prop6 folder), save it in eps format (without preview), I still get the same error! (Since the original cvs figures were never uploaded to the journal submission site (see below), it now seems unlikely that the journal submission uploading process has anything to do with my problem.)

Figures NOT in the Prop6 folder but created in much the same way -- using Canvas to make the original, then a Save As in eps format without preview -- load perfectly in LyX/Mac 1.4.1. Could there be something in the way I did the Save As on the Prop6 figures -- some option I did or did not select -- that could be causing this?

Thanks for any help the list can provide.

After more investigation, the figures that yield the conversion error (below) appear to be figures that I had previously uploaded to the submissions website of a journal. Other figures load just fine. (So this does not seem to be a 1.3.4 vs 1.4.1 problem.) Can the process of uploading a figure file in some cases have an effect on the original figure file, an effect that then prevents that figure from loading into LyX?

Some line drawings (in eps format) which loaded just fine using LyX 1.3.4 now do not load in 1.4.1. In LyX 1.4.1 Insert > Graphics gives only a graphics box that contains the (correct) name of the graphics file I'm trying to insert and the message "Error converting to loadable format." (In case it's relevant, I downloaded 1.4.1 after my Mac OS had been upgraded to 10.4.5. During the upgrade, my hard drive was replaced, but the line drawings remained untouched on the university server.)

Any help would be much appreciated.
