I tried to install LyX with the LyXWinInstaller without internet connection, but it doesn't work. On the homepage-readme there is a comment "If you have no access to the Internet, the complete installer version delivers the needed LaTeX-packages (but not their documentation). To install them, copy the folder latex from LyX's install folder to MiKTeX's install sub folder ~\tex and then refresh MiKTeX's file name database using the program MiKTeX Options". But in my Lyx's install folder there isn't any latex folder. What's the reason? Did I download the wrong package? Would it be esier to install MikteX first and then install the small WinInstaller-version? Please help me, I will trie to show some students the advantages of LyX next week, but for the installation we have no internet-connection at this day.

Maybe you did download the wrong package... it should have been about 70MB. First read:
        http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows

then try one of these two (they are different):

        ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.4.3/lyx-143-5-bundle.exe
        http://download.berlios.de/lyxwininstall/LyXWin143Complete-2-9.exe
