Humm...that can't be it. Notice that when you move your mouse pointer on
top of any math-inset, those nice pink frames appear, regardless of the
position of the cursor (it can be outside the math-inset). So, persistence of 
the frame with the mouse focus seems expected behavior. 
Perhaps the bug never did show up :)
