I seem to recall a discussion here that I can't find in the Archive.

What are some good PDF viewers to use in Windows for previewing? If I
recall correctly, Acroread must be killed and then restarted for each
new preview. Is that still correct (was it ever?)?

Yes, Acroread locks the file you're viewing, so the document has to be closed before you can update the preview. LyX for Windows ships with a batch file and a couple of ancillary programs that take of this automatically, so it's not a problem. I use Acroread (pretty much exclusively).

There are other free PDF viewers that some people like (Foxit Pro is mentioned elsewhere; I've used Free eXPert PDF Reader). There may be pros and cons for each, but since the people reading my docs will be using Acroread exclusively, I prefer to preview in Acroread.
