I still get the problem (Mac OS X) even when pasting from one table to
another table. I originally noticed the error when pasting *within the
same table* (to blank cells that already existed).

The upshot here is, something is different and wrong in 1.5x that
wasn't a problem in 1.4x. Formatting of tabular material was preserved
upon paste but now it is lost, and pasting multiple cells fails.
