Thanks, should have searched through the archive first. Must have mistyped my earlier Google search as I got almost nothing. Many different solutions of varying complexities on this list for this problem.
What worked for me was deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\v_boston\Application Data\lyx15 folder, rebooting (for good measure -- this is Windows, after all), and I was able to run LyX again.
