Hi,

I am trying for a while to get a LyX file converted into PDF but get stuck with the same error message. My setup is LyX 1.5.4 on a MBP (core Duo) running OSX 10.5.2. Here is what I have done so far:

- Installed and re-installed teTex, LyX and most gwTex packages (through iInstaller) - Started a new document, using standard settings where possible (defaults.lyx) - Messed with all sensible graphics formats (TIFF, PNG, EPS, as a floating object or inserted directly ...)

But the error stays the same. For every graphic I get the message block:

Undefined control sequence.
Missing $ inserted.
Extra }, or forgotten $.
Extra }, or forgotten $.
Undefined control sequence.

Needless to say, these control sequences and $s are beyond my reach, as they seem to be created by LyX in an intermediate LaTeX file. So I must assume that something fundamental is broken in the way LyX handles graphics. But then this mailing list would overflow with this kind of message ... but it isn't! So I must be doing something wrong. But what?

The LaTeX protocol is not really helpful to me, but maybe some kind soul out there might see more from this. This is what I get with the newly created document:

The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct

I've inserted a begin-math/end-math symbol since I think
you left one out. Proceed, with fingers crossed.

I've deleted a group-closing symbol because it seems to be
spurious, as in `$x}$'. But perhaps the } is legitimate and
you forgot something else, as in `\hbox{$x}'. In such cases
the way to recover is to insert both the forgotten and the
deleted material, e.g., by typing `I$}'.

From here, the block beginning with "! Extra }, or forgotten $." is repeated almost endlessly. I leave this out since this post is too long already. But so is my frustration ...
