Yeah, I've got a bunch like that. The best way I've found is "here definitely". Once you get used to it it doesn't take that much time. Sometimes I also just use a cross reference (figure xxx on page yyy shows the incremental/differential learning process). A third way to do it is not use a float at all -- just insert the graphic directly into the text. In that case, it goes exactly where you put it.
