Hi,
I was asked to give a podcast on the coming sunday on LyX.
There are two items where I am not sure I know enough. One is the hardware
prerequisites. There are a few remarks in the web, but not much detailled
hints. I do realize that it depends much on what one plans to do (text only
versus many figures, presentations (powerdot and the like) with large figures
etc).
Secondly, dependencies on other software.
I would appreciate your hints.
Thanks a lot

The software list to which Günter pointed you might be slightly
misleading. It does not list Ghostscript directly, only as a
requirement for Ghostview (which is optional). It does list ImageMagick
as required, though, and if you intend to produce PDF output with
images, I think IM will _require_ Ghostscript for some of the
conversions (not positive about this, but I know IM uses GS on my boxes).
As far as hardware, I'd say for the most part the issue is not with LyX
but with LaTeX and IM/GS. The most time-consuming parts are when one or
the other of those is being run. The only hardware-related issue I've
heard mentioned that is directly a LyX matter -- and I've never run into
this myself -- is that if you are a mathematical Dostoevsky (or Dickens)
you might run into slow scrolling on some platforms.
