Yes, uhm, but once I set all of this, and I've done it, what do I do next? I mean, how do I achieve my goal?

The setting "super" makes natbib print the references the way you want. With raised numbers linked to bibliography entries. Try it. Or just see the attached PDF.


    That said, your girlfriend really should use a BibTeX editor. I
    can't myself get this working without doing it that way. Download
    JabRef for her. It's /very/ easy to use.


I'll try but I believe that won't do what she needs.... I mean, putting some kind of note next to words here and there and see the corresponding bibliography entry at the end of the book / chapter...

No, this has nothing to do with what she needs. BibTeX is just a more convenient way to organize the references.
