Quick question: why doesn't LyX do this?

abc<ert>def</ert> ghi
-to tex-
abcdef\ ghi

I totally agree that you shouldn't mess with ert; that's the point of
ert.  But this would protect the spaces _outside_ of ert as Dieter
described.  For that matter, this  could be applied to any other
insert if desired.  If this results in an offending space, removing
the unwanted space obvious, whereas at present adding a wanted space
can be quite dumbfounding.

Just curious.
