The preferred way to install the caption package would be to use the
MiKTeX package browser ("Browse Packages") to download and install it.
I suspect the problem right now is that you failed to update the LaTeX
file name database after installing. You can do that by running
MiKTeX's Settings application and clicking "Refresh FNDB". (The package
browser does this for you.)
