I haven't looked at the two threads attentively, but on a quick check
this wasn't discussed: what about using one of the following tricks
[1]?
\AtEndOfClass {code}
\AtEndOfPackage {code}
\AtBeginDocument {code}

I'm not sure that the code included in the last command is actually
included in the preamble, but I have a feeling that it is treated as
if it were. Could this help?
