Truncation is the known bug. I fixed it a little while ago for 2.0. I 
don't think it'll go into 1.6.9.

Regarding cvs import, if you can manage to run LyX from a terminal, you 
will get more informative error messages. LyX shouldn't even offer to 
run this unless the python script is there, so it must be choking on 
something.
