I was curious, so I spent a little bit of time researching it. It's actually a proprietary font that they commissioned purely for the print magazine, called EcoType. This article talks about the redesign, which was managed by Erik Spiekermann in 2001. To the best of knowledge, it hasn't changed yet. http://www.daidala.com/30nov2003.html I have no idea if the font is available or not.
