I think of all LyX's many features, the one that impresses me most is that it's built from the bottom up for authoring speed. No crashes. No accidental repeated whitespace. For the most part, everything you want to do is an easy keystroke or quick click. Compile is reasonably fast, especially if you compile only to DVI. Here are things I think would make LyX even faster for authoring: 1) Better/easier keystrokes for working with character styles. In a full day of authoring I can use character styles over 100 times. 2) Restore the recently removed easy menu choices for compile to PDF via ps2pdf and compile to DVI. I could use both of these tens of times a day. 3) Complete the outlining feature so you can add headlines. Keep in mind LyX is already faster for authoring than MSWord, and of course faster than that garbage heap called OpenOffice. But the addition of the three points I mention would make LyX's authoring speed INSANE.
