Well - the reason why I did use it in emacs (status bar = minibuffer) and not in LyX is probably that the yes focus in LyX (and in most other menu / button driven applications) to the top, and only to the bottom (where the status bar is) when there is a problem. In emacs, commands are entered in the minibuffer and the feedback is immediately there (similar to entering commands in the command buffer in LyX). So I do not see a way around this, unless to move the status bar, which would be not that useful as the default / styandard location is at the bottom. Tooltips: similar problem - they are in most cases and in many programs quite useless when one knows what the icons mean. Here, it is a different story, but I am so used to ignore tooltips, that I did not realise that they contain the keyboard shortcuts. Now that I know it, I will most definitely look more closely to read the tooltips and the status bar. One idea, ut I do not know if it is feasible, possible, useful to others, would be to create a kind of log report of buttons / actions / functions executed during a session, and then gives the keyboard shortcuts for them, including how often each one was executed. This would make learning keyboard shortcuts much more efficient. But as I said: no idea if it would be useful. Cheers, Rainer > > JMarc -- Rainer M.
