Hi Doris, you probably need to install MacTeX, the MAc version of TeX, typographic engine that convert lyx files into pdf. You may want to look at the LyX wiki page on Mac installation for instructions: http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/Mac. Here is an excerpt on MacTex, which includes the link to the MacTeX site : Prerequisite You need a TeX installation. The easiest option is to use MacTeX<http://www.tug.org/mactex/>. The .dmg file for a complete MacTeX installation is very large (> 1 GB), but it is a very complete distribution and installs right out of the box. MacTeX includes all the components necessary for TeX to work, and includes the bibliography managing program BibDesk. Users with slower download speeds might want to download BasicTeX, a much smaller distribution, linked from the MacTeX page.
