You would think so. But bog standard Pi images corrupt if you pull power even if you're not doing anything.
I think the main reason is that Linux updates a "last accessed" time stamp. So even if you're not writing to it and even if it's a system file it may still write to the disk. But you can turn off that behavior in the fstab file. My recommendation is just play more and think less. See what you can get working and then solve problems. -- John.
