The connectors are no problem, although you might have to buy 100; e.g.: http://stores.ebay.ca/grace-expo/_i.html?_nkw=dupont+2x4&submit=Search&_sid=1125813709
Don't forget the inserts: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DZ40-100pcs-Dupont-Jumper-Wire-Cable-House-Female-Pin-Connector-Terminal-2-54mm-/181557665737?hash=item2a45ae1fc9 But nothing wrong with gluing 2 1x4s together if you've got 'em as in the previous note or even cutting down a larger dual row one from a disk drive cable for instance; either way you can put the diodes close to it and cover with a piece of heat shrink tubing and it'll look just fine. If you want to put the diodes in the RS232 connector (instead of using a molded cable) you might have trouble finding a connector that'll properly fit the M100. FWIW I agree that the resistors are probably superfluous, but I'd use Schottky diodes instead of generic 1N914/4148s; I suspect the reason for using transistors originally was for the low forward voltage drop (~0.2V vs 0.7). m ----- Original Message ----- From: John R. There was a lady I talked to a long time ago who had built her own replacement cables for connecting knitting machine to Brother FB100 and IIRC they didn't look kludged. -- John.
