Thanks Brian. I used to have a working TPDD1. It eventually failed
(electronics?) and I chucked it last year. I believe I replaced the belt on it
several years before. I still have the connecting cable for it, as well as the
original TPDD1 Utility Disk 26-3808, so maybe I would be better off waiting
until I can find a working TPDD1.

I also have a dozen or so blank 720Ks. I threw away three time that amount in
last year's Great Purge. Live and never learn. :/

If anyone on the list has a working TPDD1 that they are willing to part with,
let me know.

Paul

tpdd2 works with m100, t102, t200. (actually there are utils to use it from
ms-dos/windows/linux/osx too)

But you will need 3 things:

1) Special serial cable. It's not special just because of the connectors, it
has active electronics in it. There is at least one schematic around somewhere
to make one from scratch if you have to.

2) You will need to order a new belt. They have all turned to black tar goo by
now. Good news is the mess inside cleans up easy enough with 99% alcohol and
cotton swabs, and the new belt is fairly easy to order from generic electronics
repair suppliers. Just google/ebay search for "FRW-8.5 belt" Should be under
$10 for one.

3) You will need a copy of the utility disk. And, it's not possible to download
it. Long story why, which you can google an read all about, but the summation
is, someone has to use an existing disk and a working tpdd2 to make a physical
copy and mail it to you, and with that you can make yourself more copies and
put two away for safe keeping. A few different people on the list are willing
to do this. I am one. You want to hunt up some double density "720K" floppies
and order those at the same time as the belt. (Not high density 1.44M)

Lastly, optional, a power supply, 6vdc, 500ma or more, center negative, 5.5mm x
2.1mm. I use Radio Shack cat# 273-1763 with adapta-plug "M". Or this:

You could get 3 of these and use this same thing for the computer (M100/T102),
disk drive (tpdd/tppd2), tape drive (ccr-82/ctr-81/ctr-80). They all take the
same voltage and plug type and polarity, and they only draw about 400ma each,
so 2000ma just means the wall wart never burns out. Really tpdd2 only draws
about 250ma.
