Steve, just revisiting this as I catch up on e-mails. As Brian suggested, it can do no harm to just put fresh batteries into your Model 100, make sure the memory backup power switch on the bottom is on, and power up the computer. Nothing should overheat, spontaneously go wrong, etc. You may get a black or garbled screen, which might in turn clear out by pressing reset on the back or might persist for a variety of reasons (backup battery not charged up enough, onboard voltages insufficient, failed capacitors, etc.). But you won’t burn anything out. You might also be pleasantly surprised that these computers are remarkably resilient and rugged, and everything might power up beautifully to the main screen.
The good news is that among its cousins, the Model 100 is especially easy to open up and check out. If it doesn’t work at first, Jeff Birt or others should be able to get your M100 working nicely.
