I just wanted to chime in and say that I have bought one of this guy's cables, they are good quality and authentic FTDI. I bought a "null-modem" USB<->DB25 and I don't have to connect anything else to it to communicate between my old computers and my modern one. I would definitely recommend this seller to anyone looking for a cable.
Also, if I may request: if our conversations on here get lengthy, please trim out the quoted contents down to just the relevant passages from the most previous email.
