Thanks for the advice John. It actually unfroze it but only for a couple of minutes during which the M100 did a few weird things, most notably removing the BASIC entry from the menu. After it got stuck again, I tried to use the memory power switch again, while (trying to) shot a video of the result: https://youtu.be/LbVGxcP0OpA I apologize for the shaking camera and... for the unexpected visit and support of my cat :o) As you can see, every time I power cycle the M100 or press reset, something different happens. BASIC is missing, but it seems I was able to open TEXT and create a text file. Most of the time, parts of the menu display are missing, or replaced by black blocks, and every now and then the M100 froze after beeping or displaying some prompt text like "FILE TO UPLOAD?". After reading the "Recovering an unresponsive laptop" page, I made a last attempt leaving the memory power switch off for 15 minutes (I only waited 30 seconds on my first attempts). According to its previous owner, this M100 was recapped and the NiCd battery was changed about 2 years ago, but I'll look inside and try to find something wrong (I'm not that good with hardware...).
