Well, sometimes you need to. And, as I said before, I was quite
shocked at the performance of the SRA SAC305 solder I used on my last
batch of SNES controller boards. Drag-solder performance, in
particular, was as good as my ChipQuick 63/37 once I found the right
temperature

When I started doing drag-soldering, I got one of the concave devel
tips that you mentioned (SMD flow is what PLATO called theirs), but
found it tended to bridge badly. The large surface-area of the flat
bevel tip tends to pull excess solder away from pins and causes very
little bridging (in my experience). Maybe if I improved my technique I
could find benefit in the SMD flow tip, but currently, I find it
pretty much useless.
