That is what I’m thinking. One of these had one missing half-column and there 
was a spot of corrosion in the same area. The other was terribly corroded all 
over.

I did try cleaning the contacts on the two bad LCD glass panels with acetone 
and it made no difference. The 'U' clamps worked great for temporary assembly 
though.

 

Hmm....do you think the corrosion actually damaged the "traces" in the LCD 
glass?
