Could I add the file split.hh and split.cc from http://m5.eecs.umich.edu/docs/split_8hh-source.html and http://m5.eecs.umich.edu/docs/split_8cc-source.html ? Would the split functionality work if I include these files?

I don't think the 1.1 m5 release includes support for split caches
(or whatever is intended by the macro), plus a whole bunch of other
cache-related stuff. So USE_CACHE_SPLIT and several others should always
be 0,
