To answer your questions linux-boot should take a minute or two to
run to completion and linux-boot-detailed will take about an hour
depending on your hardware. What is the console output that is shown?

I just saw your edit on the M5 wiki regarding compilation problems.
We don't check the site for edits that frequently. Sending your

is much more likely to get a timely response.
In short however, I don't know a quick solution to building with gcc
4.1.0 and I don't have a machine with gcc 4.1 installed on it at the
moment.
