One more thing I've found out is that booting into single-user mode
('boot-s') does work.
It seems booting into multi-user mode activates some services that
it shouldn't.
But it's weird since the original disk image does not have such
problem.
After some googling, I found following page from SUN which seems to
be relevant to my problem:
http://docs.sun.com/source/819-2544-21/prod-note-general.html#91216
It says I have to have access to ALOM console to fix it, and I
wonder if it is possible in M5 (or legion)?
The fault would never be recorded by ALOM (because it doesn't exist),
so it wouldn't need to be reset. However that page does suggest some
other things than need to be modified on the disk image.
p.s.
By the way, ethernet device is attached to the PCI-E bus, right?
Then by having no PCI controller, you mean the SPARC system in M5
has no support for network?
That is correct. It shouldn't be that difficult to add support since
Sun made available the documentation about the Fire chipset (PCI-E
Bridge). You would just need a to write a model for the chipset,
recompile the hypervisor to include pci-e support, and change some
configuration files. Solaris supports the Intel e1000 NICs so that
should work just fine. If you're interested in working on it, i'll
point you in the right direction.
