Most people when joining a group especially when joining groups for the first
time don't read everything - they skim over and just join. That's what I did.
So it's not really clear. All the group sign up pages look the same with the
same selections. You just don't bother to read everything unless you are anal.
Do you read a warranty fully or read all conditions on everything like the
back of a bus ticket - no it's only when something happens and someone points
out the fine details that you find out you're screwed. Where there is a will
there is a way and if a spammer wants to join a group that is screened - I'm
sure they can do it...despite what you believe. I think you are missing the
point in that a member is voicing a concern and rather than putting on a
defense and dismissing what they have to say you could be more understanding.
I think the poll is a good idea. I don't think people need to read all the
members comments or questions in order to find the group or to find
out about mail art. I think posting messages publicly is an easy way to get
traffic by using it's membership - so that when people do searches on
individuals - this network comes up when it wouldn't otherwise probably.
