"Me thinketh you are geting old Father Bear...and it is always the "good old days", always better then today. I cannot compare, being a new convert but I enjoy the creative spark and the intra-communications that I recieve"
Offcourse I am getting old. That was on my mind the whole day. "Hey Geert you are getting old" and the few grey hairs aren't the only sign. But still Dawn I feel something changed in Mail-Art, slightly but it has. And I do not know that it is in the best. For example the amount of new people that joined Mail-Art. Not that I am against it they they join Mail-Art. But sometimes Iwonder is it good that sometimes they just want that lots of people will join. Ofcourse I write here a kind of contradiction. Mail-Art strives to be democratic and I drop here a note which says, just do not make that lots of people join Mail-Art. Do not force it. Mail-Art is more then sending out a decorated postcard and sometimes it has become only that. There is much more. In the nineties the group of Mail-artists was closer and we were able to read more about other friends in the mail of others. Ideas went around in the Network and each one added his/her own creativity in these ideas. I give as examples Neo-ism, the stamp with the bull with names of Mail-artists, flyers about Mail-Art projects from others, the congress years, ... This is not the first time in history of Mail-Art that this happens. After the publication of an article about Mail-Art in Rolling Stone, lots joined the Mail-Art network and also then some said that more bad stuff was send around. The same in the seventies when the magazine Vile of Anna Banana made that Mail-Art become know to lots of readers, which brought a new wave of new commers and a hughe ammount of Mail-Art projects. Also then some said that Mail-Art was flooded with and I quote "quick copy crap". Keep enjoying your Mail-Art and build up something good.
