I have adapted these methods to Mayan methods of brujeria and found it quite useful in Guatemala. In the process I get to talk about sanitation and nutrition which are the underlying problems in Guatemala. I also have access through international NGOs to medicines for people who are really ill. Balancing these conflicting belief systems is often difficult. Guatemalans, as do many Asians, have a sub conscious linguistic structure of hot/cold/wet/dry for understanding illness. They believe the direction of the wind creates illness. They also believe foods are either hot or cold. cold foods make you sick. Almost all vegetables are cold. There is no real source of vitamins in the diet. This is a big problem. It is often difficult to work in health issues with people who have irrational belief systems. In serious cases, any thing that has a chance of working is worth a try as what the person believes is very important to the course of the illness. Getting them more psychologically comfortable clearly improves their immune system function and they get well faster. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam?
