There seems little to prevent mail art from becoming a
product. The more that is resisted the quicker it will
become reality. Check out
Thomas Goldwasser. He had a show for sale last time I
looked. People collect everything. Mail is prime. We
do well to watch and perhaps influence the ethics of
the commercialization of mail. Mail is clearly a
product which ultimately will be cashed by people we
will never meet. The creation of new wealth is a
considerable achievement, something to be recognized
and managed by those of us making these artifacts and
mailing them around. What is true in the experience of
us all is that we make, send and receive artifacts.
Artifacts of all kinds are traded. Just products.
