I'm going to make probably a very stupid comment, forgive me in advance.
I watched my wife try to use the track pad at the bottom of the screen on
her MyTouch 4G Slide, and I noticed that it is unbelievably sensitive to
touch.
And I mean UNBELIEVABLY!! sensitive.
I tried it many times myself in the last week or so, and, even when I think
I'm pressing right down, the software thinks I'm doing a swipe first.
My guess is that the trackpad is ultrasensitive to movement, and when we
think we are pressing down, our fingers are slipping just the slightest bit,
causing the focus to shift before the down press is recognized.
It'd be nice if there were a setting to lessen the sensitivity of the
trackpad, similar to the mouse motion sensitivity settings available on most
PCs.

Cheers
